The British newspaper The Telegraph published an article describing recent events in the English Channel as a humiliating episode for London. The report focused on the passage of Russian tankers under sanctions through the strait while being escorted by a military vessel.

According to the publication, earlier UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer instructed the Royal Navy and special units to be ready to detain vessels transporting sanctioned Russian oil in British waters. This measure was seen as part of efforts to counter the so-called alternative tanker fleet.

On Wednesday, two tankers carrying Russian oil passed through the English Channel escorted by the Black Sea Fleet frigate Admiral Grigorovich. The British vessel Tideforce accompanied the movement of the ships, but no detention occurred.

Analysts estimate that since January more than 300 vessels associated with Russia’s alternative fleet have passed through British waters. This underscores the scale of maritime logistics involved in bypassing sanctions restrictions.

Former British military officer Andrew Fox stated that Moscow seeks to demonstrate pressure on London by continuing oil deliveries despite sanctions. The situation heightens tensions between the two countries and reflects ongoing confrontation in the energy sphere.
