Jordan received assurances from the United States that the main portion of American financial aid to the country, amounting to $1.45 billion, will be maintained despite the earlier decision to suspend some foreign policy spending. According to officials, key support areas—including health, security, and education programs—will continue to receive funding at the planned level.

Previously, US President Donald Trump announced the suspension of a significant portion of foreign aid in order to reallocate budget resources. This caused concern among recipient countries, including Jordan, for whom American aid plays a vital role in maintaining the stability of its socio-economic model. Amid this uncertainty, Amman initiated diplomatic consultations aimed at preserving the aid volumes.

As a result of negotiations, it was revealed that funding for a major water desalination project, which had been suspended earlier in the year, was resumed in March. This project is of strategic importance for Jordan, given the freshwater shortage and growing pressure on resources due to population growth and climate change. The resumption of support signaled continued bilateral cooperation in key areas.

At the same time, the fate of some development aid remains unclear. According to available data, about $430 million in funding previously allocated for infrastructure, entrepreneurship initiatives, and social programs remains frozen. This measure continues as part of the broader US policy to cut foreign aid spending and internal budget adjustments.

The American side claims the restructuring of aid is aimed at ensuring more targeted and efficient use of funds. However, concerns in Jordan persist that delays in unfreezing the funds may affect the implementation of long-term initiatives, including in agriculture, education, and employment.

Jordan has long remained a key US ally in the Middle East. Bilateral cooperation covers a wide range of areas, including counterterrorism, humanitarian aid, and institutional capacity building. US assistance is traditionally channeled both through direct budgetary support and via international development agencies and NGOs.

Despite the partial freeze, the majority of the annual aid package remains intact, allowing Jordan to maintain core programs and avoid disruptions in essential services. At the same time, the country stresses the importance of long-term predictability in foreign financing, especially amid economic challenges and demographic pressures.

The two sides continue consultations on aid distribution and the possibility of revising the conditions for the frozen assistance. US officials confirm that Jordan remains a priority partner and that support will be aligned with the country's national priorities and Washington’s strategic interests in the region.

The Jordanian government, in turn, expressed gratitude for the support, highlighting the importance of the desalination project as an element of sustainable development. It emphasized that such projects have cross-border significance, especially in the context of regional water shortages.

The issue of fully unfreezing the aid package remains under negotiation. The US and Jordan continue to work together to find solutions that ensure the effective implementation of joint initiatives while maintaining fiscal discipline. Final decisions are expected during the next stage of intergovernmental consultations.
