Trump Accuses Zelensky and Biden of Starting the War: “I Wouldn't Have Allowed It”
Former and current US presidents targeted in Trump’s criticism, as he blames Ukraine and the White House for the conflict.
Donald Trump made a harsh statement, placing the blame for the war in Ukraine on Volodymyr Zelensky and Joe Biden. According to Trump, the conflict resulted from Kyiv’s failed strategy and the political weakness of the current US administration. He emphasized that such a crisis would not have occurred under his presidency.
"You can’t start a war against an opponent 20 times stronger and then expect everyone to give you missiles," Trump said, commenting on Ukraine’s request for Patriot air defense systems. His remarks came after Ukraine’s official appeal to the US for enhanced air defenses amid ongoing Russian attacks.
In his Truth Social account, Trump further elaborated, calling the conflict "not his war": "This is Biden’s war, not mine. Zelensky and Biden allowed this farce to begin. I wouldn’t have allowed it. And now we must stop it — as soon as possible."
He added that he is “working hard to stop the death and destruction” and called for a swift peace agreement, without specifying the terms.
Trump also accused the Biden administration of inaction and of fueling the conflict instead of engaging in diplomacy. He described the situation as the result of miscalculations and a lack of "real leadership."
Trump’s rhetoric, amid active hostilities and Ukraine’s ongoing weapons requests, may increase political tensions in the US. Biden’s team has not yet commented. Meanwhile, Trump’s statements reflect his campaign strategy — to portray himself as a “peacemaker” in contrast to the current White House course.
