U.S. President Donald Trump issued a sharp call for Ukraine to immediately accept Russia's proposal to hold negotiations. In his statement published on the social network Truth Social, he expressed concern that Ukraine might miss the chance to stop hostilities. According to Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin is proposing to hold a meeting this Thursday in Turkey to discuss a possible cessation of bloodshed.

"President Putin does not want to sign a ceasefire agreement with Ukraine. Instead, he proposes a meeting on Thursday in Turkey to agree on a possible end to the bloodshed. Ukraine must agree to this immediately," Trump wrote.

The head of the White House also added that he is beginning to doubt Kyiv's willingness to negotiate. In his message, he noted that, in his opinion, Russia would not have been able to win World War II without U.S. participation: "Putin is too busy celebrating the victory in World War II, which could not have been won (not even close!) without the USA."

Almost immediately after the U.S. president’s statement, a reaction followed from Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he is ready to personally travel to Turkey and meet with Putin on the proposed date.

"On Thursday I will wait for Putin in Turkey personally. I hope this time the Russians will not look for excuses why they cannot do it," Zelensky said.

These statements increased global attention to the possible meeting in Istanbul. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had earlier confirmed his readiness to mediate and provide a venue for negotiations. Turkey is expected to take all necessary steps to organize the meeting.

The potential negotiations, if they take place, could become the first significant step toward resolving the conflict in recent months. Diplomatic sources note that the U.S. president's initiative, supported by Erdoğan, creates a unique window of opportunity for dialogue.

It is not yet clear whether the Russian side will confirm its participation. Earlier, Moscow stated its readiness for a meeting without preconditions. International organizations and analytical centers continue to monitor the situation, noting the importance of upcoming events.

If successfully arranged, the meeting in Istanbul could become a key event in efforts to achieve a ceasefire and begin the process of resolving the crisis.
