Zionist Plan for Gaza Sparks Mixed Reactions
Trump and Netanyahu presented a “peace” plan for Gaza. The US and some Arab states supported it, while Palestinian movements called the document a tool of pressure.
US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a joint press conference where they announced the details of a plan presented as a “peace solution” for the Gaza Strip. According to the American leader, the document reflects the interests of all parties and was coordinated with several Arab states in the region. However, Tel Aviv’s position once again excludes the possibility of recognizing a Palestinian state, which drew criticism from Palestinian movements.
Trump described the moment of presenting the plan as a “historic day for peace.” He stated that the US had agreed on key principles that take into account the interests of all parties, including Arab leaders. The American president expressed hope that the plan would create the foundation for “eternal peace in the Middle East,” emphasizing Washington’s role as a mediator in the settlement process.
Netanyahu, in turn, made it clear that the plan’s conditions fully coincided with Israel’s position. He noted that the state had never agreed to the creation of a Palestinian state, and this line has been consistently supported by the Trump administration. According to the prime minister, if Hamas refuses to accept the proposed conditions, Israel will complete its ongoing actions, and the outcome will depend on the reaction of the Palestinian side.
The statement was immediately answered by the Secretary General of the Islamic Jihad movement, Ziyad al-Nakhala. He called the document an “American-Zionist agreement” that fully reflects Israel’s position and is aimed at continuing pressure on the Palestinian people. According to him, the plan contains no provisions that could guarantee Palestinians the right to self-determination and the creation of their own state.
The reaction to the new plan was not limited to Palestine. Several key countries in the region — Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Qatar — expressed support for the US initiative. Official representatives of these states said they considered it a step toward ending the military confrontation and reducing tensions in Gaza. Support from regional capitals indicates a desire to maintain relations with Washington and strengthen their influence in the negotiations.
At the same time, analysts note that the declared goal of “peace” under the proposed plan is effectively accompanied by the rejection of the two-state principle. This means maintaining the current configuration of the conflict, where the Palestinian Authority lacks political recognition, while Israel continues to control key territories. Such a prospect raises concern among human rights organizations and intensifies criticism from Palestinian movements.
The presentation of the plan is also accompanied by expectations of new statements from the US. The White House administration published President Trump’s working schedule, according to which he will deliver a separate address on September 30. The topic of the address has not yet been disclosed, but observers do not rule out that it will be related to further steps in the Middle East settlement.
Thus, the announced plan became another link in the long chain of initiatives to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Despite support from some Arab states, it provokes deep distrust among Palestinian movements, which view it as a tool of pressure rather than a foundation for a just peace. The development of the situation will largely depend on Washington’s further steps and Hamas’s response to the proposed conditions.
