Venezuela Declares State of Emergency and Prepares Army Against US
Maduro signed a decree on a state of emergency in case of US aggression. The document allows mobilizing the army, controlling infrastructure, and launching security plans.
Venezuela has found itself at the center of international attention after President Nicolás Maduro signed a decree declaring a state of emergency. This move officially established a mechanism for state actions in case the United States takes direct military steps against the country. The document provides broad powers to the president and state institutions aimed at mobilizing the armed forces, protecting key infrastructure, and ensuring internal stability.
According to Maduro, the Venezuelan people are now more prepared than ever. He emphasized that society has become more confident and possesses the necessary tools to defend the country under any circumstances. This includes not only military resources but also political and social consolidation. The president noted that the decree would serve as the legal foundation for rapid responses to external threats and for preserving national sovereignty.
Vice President Delcy Rodríguez explained that the document grants the head of state constitutional powers in the event of direct military aggression. Among the key provisions is the possibility of mobilizing the army across the country. This means placing the armed forces on special duty, deploying reservists, and strengthening border control. In addition, the president gains the right to immediately establish military control over all strategic infrastructure in Venezuela, including the oil and gas sector, transport hubs, ports, and energy facilities. Civil security plans are also activated, involving cooperation between the army, police, and local authorities.
Rodríguez stressed that the decree would take effect immediately if US armed forces undertook aggressive actions. She noted that the state was prepared to repel any threat and would not allow its sovereignty to be violated. The vice president linked these measures to the need to prevent possible intervention and to demonstrate the country’s readiness for any development.
Parallel to the signing of the decree, Venezuela launched large-scale military exercises called “Caribe Soberano 200.” More than 2,500 soldiers, as well as warships and aircraft, are taking part in the maneuvers. The drills are taking place in coastal areas and are aimed at practicing scenarios of repelling maritime and aerial aggression. According to officials, the exercises include coordination among different branches of the armed forces, the use of modern intelligence tools, and defensive maneuvers in the event of a possible blockade.
Parliament Speaker Jorge Rodríguez, for his part, stated that Venezuela is ready to respond to any hostile steps. He stressed that if the “imperialist power” starts a war in the Caribbean region, the consequences would be catastrophic for the entire American continent. Thus, the Venezuelan leadership emphasizes that any potential conflict would affect not only national borders but also trigger regional destabilization.
The escalation of rhetoric in Caracas coincides with the ongoing crisis in US-Venezuelan relations. Sanctions imposed by Washington against the country’s oil sector have seriously complicated its economic situation. However, the Venezuelan authorities insist that any pressure only strengthens society’s resolve to defend independence. The government views the military exercises and the decree on the state of emergency as tools of deterrence and demonstrations of political will.
Thus, the signing of the decree and the start of the exercises show that Venezuela seeks to demonstrate readiness to act decisively in the event of a threat from the United States. These steps are intended to strengthen internal mobilization and send a signal to the international community about the country’s determination to defend its sovereignty.
