Abbas: Israel Preparing to Deport Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank
Mahmoud Abbas stated that Israel aims to clear Gaza and the West Bank of Palestinians through deportation. He emphasized the need to stop the war and protect the rights of the Palestinian people.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas accused Israel of attempting the forced deportation of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. He made this statement during the 32nd session of the Palestinian Central Council held in Ramallah. According to Abbas, Israel’s actions aim to completely cleanse these territories of Palestinian residents under the pretext of military necessity and security.
Abbas stressed that the Palestinian people are suffering massive violence and destruction. He reported that Israeli actions in Gaza and the West Bank have resulted in over 200,000 casualties. He warned against treating these victims as mere statistics, stating that each victim represents part of a people who continue to resist deportation and forced displacement.
Particular attention was given to the situation in the West Bank. Abbas said Israeli forces carry out daily attacks targeting camps, villages, and cities. Homes are destroyed, daily life is disrupted, and blockades and access restrictions worsen the humanitarian situation. According to Abbas, Israel is also changing the historical status of holy sites in Jerusalem and undermining the city’s religious and cultural heritage.
He also noted economic pressure from Israel, accusing it of withholding tax revenues owed to the Palestinian Authority. This, he said, has led to a financial crisis and restricted the government’s ability to provide public services.
Abbas outlined four main priorities for the Palestinian leadership: an end to hostilities in Gaza, halting aggression in the West Bank, protection of holy sites, and international recognition of Palestinian rights under international law.
He voiced concern over the stance of the United States, stating that the policy of double standards undermines UN resolutions and efforts toward a just resolution. Despite numerous UN decisions to protect Palestinian rights, their implementation remains uncertain, he said.
In closing, Abbas reaffirmed the Palestinian leadership's commitment to political and diplomatic means in the pursuit of national rights. He reiterated the Palestinian aspiration for an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital. Abbas called on Arab and Islamic nations, as well as the international community, to intensify efforts to protect Palestinians and pressure Israel to end violence and occupation.
He concluded by urging an international conference to establish effective mechanisms for ending the conflict and achieving sustainable peace based on justice, equality, and international law. Without such an approach, the prospects for peace will grow increasingly distant, and violence will further deepen the humanitarian crisis in the region.
