Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to make an official visit to Azerbaijan in the near future. According to an Israeli publication, the purpose of the trip is to meet with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to discuss issues related to bilateral relations and strengthening strategic partnership.

It is reported that the visit is being organized against the backdrop of stable and long-standing ties between the two countries, as well as personal contacts between their leaders. Netanyahu and Aliyev have previously interacted at various international events and held talks on military, technological, and energy cooperation. Israel and Azerbaijan maintain close relations in the fields of defense, trade, and intelligence, and this visit may become another step toward expanding bilateral interaction.

Although official sources have not yet published a detailed agenda, diplomatic sources suggest several topics likely to be discussed during the meeting. These include the situation in the South Caucasus region, energy security, cooperation in countering transnational threats, and the development of bilateral technological projects, particularly in military and civilian electronics.

One of the central topics may be the strengthening of defense coordination. Israel already supplies Azerbaijan with various weapons and technologies, including drones and air defense systems. Netanyahu's potential visit may mark the continuation or expansion of military contracts, especially given the growing instability in the region and rising competition for influence.

Energy cooperation is also expected to be a focus. Azerbaijan, as a key exporter of oil and gas, plays a crucial role in Eurasian energy security. Israel, for its part, is developing hydrocarbon extraction in the Eastern Mediterranean, which may create additional points of contact. Possible discussions on joint projects in processing, logistics, and export of energy resources could be an important aspect of the visit.

Regional issues, including security in the South Caucasus and dynamics in relations between regional countries, may also occupy a significant part of the agenda. Given the complex political environment, Netanyahu’s visit may be used to coordinate approaches to current challenges and threats, including cross-border risks and the influence of external players.

The visit may also touch on cooperation in IT, healthcare, agriculture, and water management. Israel has significant expertise in these areas, and Azerbaijan has expressed interest in technology transfer and involving Israeli specialists in national modernization programs.

Netanyahu’s visit to Baku would reaffirm the high level of political dialogue between the countries. It could provide further momentum for deepening relations, including potential new agreements and initiatives in various sectors. The sides may also discuss international diplomacy and coordination of positions in global and regional organizations.

The diplomatic significance of the visit also lies in Israel’s efforts to develop strong ties with moderate Muslim countries, enhancing its regional position. Azerbaijan, in turn, views Israel as a strategic partner in terms of technology, defense, and geopolitical influence. This cooperation is expected to continue regardless of foreign policy challenges and changes in the international agenda.

Against the backdrop of ongoing instability in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, Netanyahu’s visit may be seen as part of a broader strategy to strengthen alliances and increase the number of partners in the Eurasian space. The outcomes of the visit and subsequent statements may shed light on possible directions for further development of Israel-Azerbaijan relations.
