The identities of those killed in the crash of a Bell 206L sightseeing helicopter into the Hudson River near New York have been confirmed. On board was the head of Siemens’ Spanish division, Agustín Escobar, along with his wife, three children, and the pilot. All six people died either at the scene or shortly after the crash.

The Escobar family was in the United States on a private visit and decided to take a sightseeing flight over New York City. According to witnesses, shortly after takeoff the helicopter began to lose altitude, its tail rotor and one blade detached. The aircraft lost control, flipped in the air, and crashed into the Hudson River.

The day before the tragedy, the family had taken a photo together in front of the helicopter — a photo that turned out to be their last. It was shared on social media and sparked a wave of condolences.

Rescue teams arrived almost immediately, but despite their quick response, no one could be saved. The helicopter sank at a shallow depth, and divers had to recover the bodies from underwater. Four passengers died instantly, while two were resuscitated but could not be saved.

The investigation is considering several possible causes: mechanical failure, pilot error, or structural failure during the flight. It is noted that the helicopter was used for private sightseeing flights, was maintained by a private company, and had no prior serious incidents.

The tragedy has become the most severe helicopter incident in New York in recent years and sparked discussion in the aviation community. US authorities and Siemens representatives expressed condolences to the victims’ families and promised full cooperation in the investigation.
