Islamabad has become a platform for contacts between Iran and the United States

The simultaneous arrival of Iranian and American delegations in Islamabad indicates the growing importance of Pakistan as a neutral space for contacts amid conflict. The Iranian side was led by Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and the delegation included about 70 people. Earlier, an American delegation of around 300 people arrived in Pakistan, headed by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, which also included Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Pakistan traditionally maintains working relations with both Tehran and Washington, balancing between regional interests and strategic partnership with the United States. Amid the escalation surrounding Iran, Islamabad has the opportunity to strengthen its diplomatic weight and demonstrate its ability to act as a mediator.

For Iran, the visit may signify a search for channels of indirect dialogue and a demonstration of openness to political contacts. For the United States, it offers an opportunity to discuss regional issues through a third country and assess the prospects of further strategy in West Asia.

There have been no direct confirmations of planned negotiations between the delegations, however, their simultaneous presence increases assumptions about consultations on security and de-escalation.

It remains unclear whether these visits will lead to concrete agreements or will merely serve as a demonstration of diplomatic activity. However, the very choice of Islamabad underscores the redistribution of influence platforms in the region.
