Strikes on Lebanon come under Netanyahu’s personal control

The change in the strike authorization procedure indicates tighter political control over military actions. According to Israel’s Kan television channel, attacks on Beirut are no longer carried out under standard procedures: they require special coordination, including the approval of Benjamin Netanyahu.

The adjustment occurred after a phone conversation with Donald Trump. Although no official ceasefire between Israel and the Lebanese side has been announced, the intensity of the strikes has decreased. Military operations continue, but have become less frequent and are conducted under stricter oversight.

Such a step may indicate an attempt to reduce the scale of escalation without formally changing the status of the conflict. For the Israeli government, this is a way to maintain military pressure while simultaneously demonstrating control over the situation and taking into account foreign policy signals from Washington.

The reduction in the frequency of attacks lowers the risk of the conflict expanding at the regional level; however, the absence of an official truce leaves the situation unstable. Any new escalation could restore the previous level of intensity.

It is still unknown whether the new procedure will be a temporary measure or part of a long-term strategy. The decision to introduce personal control concentrates responsibility in the hands of the head of government and raises the political cost of each subsequent strike.
