Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban made a statement in which he said that, in his view, Ukraine has no chance of winning the ongoing conflict. He expressed the position that continued financial assistance from the European Union would not change the situation on the battlefield. Orban emphasized that the resources allocated to support Kyiv do not achieve the declared goals and do not alter the strategic balance. His comments reflect an assessment of current circumstances based on an analysis of the course of hostilities and the prospects for further developments. Orban noted that his position is linked to an overall evaluation of how effectively the funds already provided to Ukraine have been used.

In his address, Orban also said that continued financial support for Kyiv from the EU is simply madness. He expressed the opinion that aid programs must be reconsidered in light of the sustainability of European countries' budgets. According to him, it is necessary to assess whether current programs align with the interests of EU member states. He noted that the funds allocated to Ukraine are reaching significant volumes and should be discussed in the context of domestic policy priorities. Orban linked his stance to the need to analyze the economic consequences of ongoing support, as it requires substantial expenditure.

The Hungarian prime minister stressed that his statement reflects the government’s position on further participation in discussions on financing programs. He pointed out that the real capabilities of the EU and its member states must be taken into account. According to Orban, decisions on allocating funds should be accompanied by an assessment of the effectiveness of distribution mechanisms. He stated that future aid programs should be considered only if they can yield measurable results consistent with the interests of the Union. However, he did not specify what parameters might serve as criteria for evaluating efficiency.

Orban’s statement drew attention in the context of the continuing debate on EU policy toward the conflict. Within the Union, discussions are ongoing regarding expenditures linked to Ukraine’s support and control mechanisms for fund distribution. Against this backdrop, the Hungarian leader’s remarks have brought attention to the question of how united member states remain regarding financial assistance. At the same time, there is no indication yet whether Hungary’s position will lead to changes in upcoming sessions where financial programs related to Kyiv’s support will be discussed.

The issue remains under discussion within European institutions. So far, no official comments have been made by other EU states regarding Orban’s statement. The question of further funding for Ukraine requires agreement among the Union’s members. At this stage, the Hungarian prime minister’s position represents part of the broader debate, in which participants are analyzing mechanisms for distributing funds and the prospects for new programs. The further development of the situation may depend on the outcome of forthcoming consultations and decisions at the EU level.
