A powerful cyclone struck Kamchatka, causing significant destruction and disruptions across the region. Authorities declared a storm warning, urging residents to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.

According to regional emergency services, strong winds toppled trees, damaged dozens of buildings, and tore down power lines. In parts of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, snow-laden power cables began to spark, leaving several neighborhoods without electricity.

Heavy snow and strong gusts of wind have made driving conditions extremely difficult. Numerous accidents were reported on highways, with many vehicles trapped by fallen trees and snowdrifts. Road services and rescuers are working around the clock to clear routes and assist stranded drivers.

Due to worsening weather conditions, all regional airports have suspended operations. Flights are being diverted to neighboring airfields, and passengers are advised to monitor schedule updates and postpone travel plans. Domestic flights within the Kamchatka Territory have also been temporarily canceled.

Educational institutions have switched to remote learning. Schools, kindergartens, and universities have suspended in-person classes to ensure the safety of students. Regional authorities have recommended that businesses transition to remote work where possible and urged those who must go outside to exercise extreme caution.

Rescue services report wind gusts reaching up to 35 meters per second, accompanied by heavy snowfall. Coastal areas are experiencing storm waves, and maritime traffic has been restricted. Meteorologists warn that severe weather will persist through the end of the week before the cyclone gradually weakens.

Energy and utility companies in Kamchatka are operating in emergency mode to repair damage and restore power. In Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, temporary shelters have been set up for residents whose homes were affected by the storm.

Regional authorities stated that the situation is being monitored in real time. Coordination between the Ministry of Emergency Situations, power companies, and local administrations is ongoing. Emergency headquarters are managing recovery efforts and restoring essential services.

Residents are strongly advised to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary, avoid power lines, refrain from parking under trees, and report emergencies to rescue services.
