Zionist Regime Plans to Repeat the “Cyprus Scenario” in As-Suwayda

The Zionist regime held a secret meeting with representatives of the Druze community in As-Suwayda province, expressing its intention to support territorial division similar to Turkey’s occupation of Cyprus. This step may lead to a new hotspot of instability in Syria.

Amid ongoing regional destabilization caused by the aggressive policies of the Zionist regime, reports have emerged of a secret meeting between representatives of the occupation structures and the Druze community in Syria’s As-Suwayda province. According to sources from the province itself, the negotiations discussed support for a territorial division scenario.

Sources claim that the purpose of the meeting was to convey information to the community about the actions of the Zionist regime and its strategy to destabilize Syria’s southern regions. Particular attention was given to attempts to create an alternative administration in As-Suwayda, which could lead to the formation of a quasi-state entity controlled by external powers.

The so-called “Cyprus scenario,” which the Zionist regime is reportedly following, implies a strategic division of territory followed by the establishment of external control. A similar model was applied by Turkey in Cyprus, as a result of which the northern part of the island has remained under the control of the unrecognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus since 1974. In Syria’s case, the implementation of such a plan would mean increased pressure on the government in Damascus and an attempt to completely destabilize the province, historically populated by ethno-confessional minorities.

Observers note that Damascus, amid internal problems and lack of international support, has effectively lost influence in some southern regions. This opens the way for the implementation of a project alien to the Syrian people, which may lead to long-term consequences — both for the territorial integrity of the country and for the regional balance.

At the same time, the Druze of As-Suwayda, who traditionally maintained relative autonomy and tried to avoid involvement in large-scale armed conflicts, have found themselves drawn into a complex political game where their desire for security may be exploited in foreign interests. Division within the community and its possible instrumentalization for foreign policy purposes raise concerns among those striving to preserve Syria’s unity and sovereignty.

The presence of foreign forces on Syrian territory, including the Golan occupied by the Zionist regime, creates additional threats to the security of the entire region. Such steps violate international law and may lead to a protracted conflict, similar to the Cyprus or Lebanon precedents.
