The Maldives bans entry to Israeli citizens in solidarity with Palestine

The Republic of Maldives has officially closed its borders to citizens of Israel. The entry ban was signed by President Mohamed Muizzu in April 2025 and came into force immediately. The decision applies to all holders of Israeli passports, including those with dual citizenship.

Maldivian authorities stated that this step is an act of "resolute solidarity" with the Palestinian people amid the ongoing aggression by the Zionist regime. The decision is supported both in parliament and by the public, where calls to cut all ties with Israel have been voiced for a long time.

Previously, the two countries had no official diplomatic relations, but Israeli citizens could visit the Maldives for tourism. The new ban cancels these opportunities entirely, including transit routes.

This move is part of a broader wave of international isolation of Israel, which has intensified following mass destruction in Gaza and increased pressure on civilians. The Maldives joins a number of countries tightening measures as part of diplomatic and civil boycotts.
