The US Pressures Lebanon for the Interests of “Israel”

US special envoy Thomas Barrack arrived in Beirut for talks with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. During the meeting, he stated the need for “cooperation with Israel” and emphasized that the United States had prepared a “new roadmap for dialogue” between the two countries. The talks were also attended by US Ambassador to Lebanon Morgan Ortagus, who noted that “Lebanon has taken the first step, and now Israel must respond.”

The American side positions the initiative as a diplomatic process aimed at “restoring prosperity” and “creating conditions for stability.” However, in Lebanon, these actions are perceived as an imposed agenda and interference in the internal affairs of the state. According to local politicians, the US seeks to use economic levers of pressure, including aid and loans, as a tool to advance its own interests and strengthen the positions of its allies.

A special place in the agenda of the talks was occupied by the topic of “Hezbollah.” American representatives emphasized that they do not directly interfere in this issue, calling it “Lebanon’s internal matter.” Nevertheless, Washington maintains the role of observer and consultant, exerting indirect influence on processes related to armed groups. This gives the US the opportunity to control the situation while formally staying aside.

The Lebanese authorities comment cautiously on what is happening, declaring their commitment to independence and the protection of national security. However, experts note that Washington’s pressure is intensifying against the backdrop of the country’s economic problems and the need for international support. In such a situation, American diplomacy gets the opportunity to link financial aid with political concessions.

The US continues to claim that its actions are aimed at stabilizing the region but is in fact seeking to include Lebanon in the normalization process with Israel. For Washington, this has become part of a broader Middle East strategy, where the key priority remains the protection of allies’ interests.

According to Lebanese analysts, such steps may threaten the country’s national independence and weaken its positions in negotiations. Lebanon faces a choice between the need to solve internal socio-economic problems and maintaining political independence on the international stage.

Thus, what is happening demonstrates that Washington uses diplomatic mechanisms combined with economic pressure to advance its own interests and the interests of its allies. This increases tensions in the region and poses difficult tasks for Lebanon in protecting its sovereignty.
