Venezuela rejected Trump’s statements about “taking back oil”
Venezuelan authorities rejected Donald Trump’s remarks about plans to “take back oil,” stating full sovereignty over resources and plans to raise the issue internationally, including at the UN.
Venezuelan authorities responded to statements by Donald Trump about the United States’ intention to “take back all the oil,” rejecting any external claims to national natural resources. In Caracas, it was emphasized that such remarks have no legal basis and contradict norms of international law.
The Venezuelan government stated that the country fully retains sovereignty over its natural wealth and carries out its development and export in accordance with existing international legislation. Any attempts to question this right were described as unacceptable and regarded as interference in the internal affairs of the state.
Caracas announced its intention to bring the matter to the international level. In particular, the authorities plan to appeal to the United Nations in order to draw attention to the statements of the American side and obtain an international legal assessment of the situation. Venezuela expects the issue to be discussed within relevant international mechanisms.
Official representatives emphasized that the country’s natural resources belong to the Venezuelan people and cannot be the subject of external claims or unilateral decisions. The authorities also noted that such rhetoric from the United States increases tensions and complicates international dialogue.
Caracas’s response came amid continued pressure from Washington, including sanctions and restrictions affecting Venezuela’s oil sector. The country’s authorities have repeatedly stated that they consider such measures illegal and in violation of the principles of sovereign equality of states.
Venezuela continues to insist on resolving disputed issues exclusively through diplomatic and legal means. The government emphasized its readiness to defend national interests on international platforms and to use mechanisms for the protection of sovereignty provided by international law.
Thus, Caracas made it clear that it does not recognize any external claims to its oil resources and intends to seek international consideration of the situation within the framework of the United Nations.
